‘Deep Learning Memory’ A portrait of Harvard Yard in 100 words

At the intersection of technology, history, and creativity, a unique collaboration between an artist (Zoé Vayssieres Zoe Vayssieres ) and data scientists at Digital Data Design Institute at Harvard is helping to reshape how we engage with the past. Using generative AI, the team transcribed and analyzed over 4,000 pages of archival material from the first 200 years of Harvard Yard, surfacing insights that might otherwise remain hidden. What began as an exploration of dusty, handwritten college books evolved into an interactive portrait of everyday life in early Harvard—reimagined through art and AI. The project exemplifies D^3’s mission to unlock new perspectives through human-centered technology and to make history not just accessible, but alive.
